Flo Rida, an extremely successful individual in the music industry, is now in my book, a song stealer. For those of you that don’t know, The Bingo Players released “Cry (Just a Little)” on May 18 2011. This past year, Flo Rida thought it was a good idea to go ahead and release “I Cry.”
For those of you who listen to the radio, it’s clear that Flo Rida’s song is an imitation of the Bingo Players’, besides the added rapping, and what was once a high pitched voice, switched to the deep one of Flo Rida himself. It’s hard to believe, but this is not the first time Flo Rida has taken popular, well-known music and turned it into something of his own.
In July of 2011, Flo Rida released “Good Feeling” while EDM artist, AVICII released “Levels.” The songs sound extremely similar and many claim that Flo Rida stole from AVICII. With all of this being said, Flo Rida isn’t anything less of a talented artist just because of these certain situations. He has absolutely proved himself to be top notch, especially when “Apple Bottom Jeans” was released.
People like me, who live and breathe by their music seem to have a hard time understanding why someone who has so many resources to create amazing music must take from others. And although this is all my opinion, I am going to continue my rant with this:
It’s apparent that EDM (Electronic Dance Music) is becoming bigger and more popular, but that does NOT mean Flo Rida has the right to take an amazing song, turn it into something not so great. EDM to most is just a bunch of noises with some lyrics here and there, but it takes a true artist to come up with them. Artists get paid millions of dollars to come up with original songs, not to take from other people. Listen for yourself…
