Celebs rocking the neutrals trend, from left: Rachel Zoe, Whitney Port, and Melissa George

“Whoever said orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed,” gushes Reese Witherspoon as blonde heroine, Elle Woods, in 2001’s Legally Blonde. Whoever said wearing a monotone ensemble was monotonous, well; the same could be said, too. Neutrals are majorly trending this season. From blending different shades of beige, to mixing gray and white, the neutrals trend proves that sticking to a simplified color palette is not only fashionable, but also undeniably chic.

A neutral dress and matching heels is a recipe for success. A classic beige sheath is both office and daytime chic. Worn with nude peep-toe pumps or a beige sandal for an afternoon of shopping therapy, a neutral dress and matching shoes is understatedly elegant and classy.

Accessory tip: Play up the neutrals trend with classic gold jewelry, or silver if your dress is grey.

A patterned knit day dress is a playful way to sport neutrals. This one found on edressme.com is fitted with elegant bell sleeves and a flounce along the hemline. Worn with grey flats for day and black or grey high heel sandals for evening, a patterned dress is a perfect way to embrace the neutrals trend.

The classic pairing of a blouse and shorts is a match made in fashion heaven. The lightweight fabric on top versus structured bottoms is not only visually pleasing, but versatile, as well. Pair a cream colored blouse with shimmery beige shorts for an ensemble with just the right amount of sparkle.

Neutrals storm the runway

Let’s not forgot about the yin to every outfit’s yang: accessories! Accessories polish off neutral-hued ensembles with modern flare. A camel-colored tote is an ideal complement to beige, while grey ballet flats balance an all-black ensemble. Tasteful silver and gold jewelry rounds out neutral ensembles.

Whether chic in a beige top and iridescent bottoms, or demure and ladylike in a black shift dress and matching heels, neutral ensembles are all about understated glamour, proving this take on modern simplicity is as successful as it is stylish.
