Ponchos at Band of Outsiders, Alexander Wang and Rag & Bone

Ponchos have been one of the biggest trends on the Fall 2011 runways at New York Fashion Week. No, seriously, ponchos.

1970′s inspired looks are big this Spring, and ponchos are helping that trend to continue in the Fall. Ponchos and their super-stylish cousin, the cape, can be very trendy if worn correctly. Many top designers sent models down the runway in ponchos during Fashion Week and definitely displayed how cool they can look.

At Band of Outsiders, a more traditional style of poncho was shown. Alexander Wang actually showed about a dozen looks topped with different ponchos. Each seemed to be a mix between an actual poncho and a bomber jacket. Wang is known for being a big influence on New York City fashion, so it seems that many ponchos will been seen on trendy downtown girls in the Fall. Rag and Bone also went for a more traditionally cut poncho, but upped the style factor with a unique pop of bright blue.

Ponchos at Rebecca Minkoff, BCBG Max Azria, and ADAM

Another designer who featured a poncho was Rebecca Minkoff. She showed a sleek black poncho that could easily be worn with just about anything. BCBG Max Azria featured a few tailored, minimalist versions of the poncho that fit in perfectly with the rest of their collection. Finally, ADAM also showed a blanket-like type poncho in a more traditional cut.

The cozy poncho is a perfect addition to fall outerwear. They are great for keeping you warm in cooler temperatures, especially a longer version like one ones seen at Band of Outsiders and ADAM. Also, you can wear a relaxed outfit since many can completely cover you, yet you still look stylish. Perfect for a lazy day! A few similar styles are currently in stores such as ASOS, TopShop, and Free People.

What do you think, can ponchos be trendy now or should this look stay in the past?
