Anna Wintour and Marc Jacobs

It looks like Obama has the perfect set of fashionistas to support him for reelection. As we all know, this November our nation may change thanks to election day. Big fashion names like Anna Wintour, Diane Von Furstenberg, Marc Jacobs and many more are teaming up to create an initiative called Runway to Win, which was quietly announced on President Barack Obama’s blog earlier this month. America’s top fashion designers are piling up to support our president for the 2012 election.

Runway to Win will be selling merchandise like tote bags, scarves, t-shirts and accessories to help raise money for Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign. It’s said to be mimicking 2008′s Runway to Change.

Some of the designers who have signed up to create merchandise to sell for the campaign have also been noted from having our first lady, Michelle Obama, wear some of their frocks. The designers included are Rachel Roy, Jason Wu, Narciso Rodriguez, Marc Jacobs, Diane Von Furstenberg, rag & bone, Altuzarra, Alexander Wang, Tracy Reese, and Tory Burch. It’s strange to not see Donna Karan, however it’s been said that parent company LVMH didn’t wish any of their brands to be involved in fear of estranging themselves from Republican consumers. Marc Jacobs, on the other hand, apparently went ahead and created some T-shirts anyway.

The merchandise we will be sold on runwaytowin.com, and sales will begin this coming Thursday! All proceeds will go to the Obama Victory Fund. And nothing is complete without having a party! Anna Wintour will co-host a Runway To Win party alongside Scarlet Johansen.

I have to say, it’s nice to see that fashion and politics can go hand-in-hand for a change. With big names like these behind such an influential man, it really makes me feel some hope for the Democratic Party. I have a feeling things will be crazy until election day, but it’s nice to see some of our favorite designers come together for a purpose.
