The Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week kicked off Monday, July 4. Celebrities including Katie Holmes, Cate Blanchett and Olivia Palermo all made the trip to check out the newest collections. Two of the biggest hits have been Christian Dior and Giorgio Armani Privé.
Dior, for the first time in 15 years, did not feature John Galliano designs. The collection was full of colorful prints and everything from poodle skirts to flowing floor length dresses.
The collection as a whole felt like a well composed circus. Almost every look was finished with with a Stephen Jones headpiece ranging from small complementary pieces to large colorful statement pieces. The models’ makeup was just as bright as their wardrobe with neon and metallic eyeshadows of pinks, blues and greens.
The big hit the following day was the Armani Privé show. The collection was inspired by Japan and the geisha look. Instead of flowing dresses that resembled kimonos, the line was full of form-fitting mermaid gowns with square, rigid bodices. The looks were complete with elaborate hats by Philip Treacy, some resembling origami.
Both Dior and Armani gave us just what we expected from their Haute Couture lines, originality and drama. We are sure to see some of these over-the-top looks on the red carpet.Tags: Cate Blanchett, christian dior, dior, fashion week, geisha, Giorgio Armani Privé, Japanese, john galliano, Katie Holmes, olivia palermo, Paris Fashion Week, Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week, Philip Treacy, Stephen Jones
