Monique Lhuillier

Monique Lhuillier is best known for her glamorous wedding dresses that capture sophistication and beauty. Her sense of style and understanding of a woman’s desire to feel beautiful are easily seen throughout her bridal collections. Keep reading to see how one of the biggest names in the wedding industry got her start!

Monique Lhuillier Fall 2012 collection

Lhuillier grew up in the Philippines and was heavily influenced by her mother’s personal style. Lhuillier started sketching at age 11 and hasn’t stopped since. She moved to Los Angeles where she attended the Fashion Institute for Design and Merchandising to pursue her dream of becoming a designer. As she studied at FIDM, she grew interested in bridal and evening gowns and was surprised at the lack of fashion surrounding bridal options.

The absence of fashion in the market inspired her to offer women modern couture. She wanted women to find their dream dress. Lhuillier hit it big in 1996 when she debuted her first bridal collection with a wild reception from retailers and magazine editors. Her husband, Tom became CEO of the company and the brand has grown into one of the most successful names in the bridal industry.

Lhuillier’s brand has expanded and now includes a ready-to-wear collection, a tabletop collection, stationery and fine paper and a bed, bath and home collection. She was inducted as a new member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 2003. I can’t wait to see her new collection!
