Cypha Sounds

Hot 97 FM’s DJ Cipha Sounds (of The Cipha Sounds & Rosenberg Show), has officially pissed off the Haitian community. On Friday, December 17, Cipha joked over the air that he doesn’t have sex with Haitian women fearing that he would contract the HIV virus. He stated, “The reason I’m HIV negative is because I don’t mess with Haitian girls.”  Outraged by the ugly comment, people from the Haitian community swamped Hot 97’s lines with complaints & posted their disapproval on Facebook, Twitter, and blog sites.

Cipha issued on apology on-air stating, “I made a stupid, tasteless joke that was a one-liner that was taken totally the wrong way. I want to say sincerely that I apologize. I do nothing but rep for the Haitian people, but I said something stupid that I’m embarrassed about.” Along with his on-air apology, Cipha wrote an apology on his Twitter page, “I know some peeps r still mad at me but what is being said that I said is not even correct…Again, tho, I apologize if I offended U. 4Real.”

Despite the multiple apologies from Cipha, the Haitian community still isn’t too happy. Leaders from the Haitian community have expressed that they want the DJ fired and gathered in front of the Hot 97 station today to protest. Even though some Haitians have defended Cipha, the situation is more complicated than just a joke and an apology. Fans are worried that Cipha will actually lose his job. Cipha better hope that his apologies start to win over the Haitian community or the joke will be on him.
