Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony

Chloe Sevigny was introduced to the fashion world in the mid-1990s as a model and intern for the now-defunct Sassy magazine. It was enough to get her attention in the New York fashion scene, but Sevigny had more up her sleeve. In 1995, she played the lead in Larry Clark’s controversial film, Kids.

This catapulted her to “It” girl status and Sevigny became well-known in Hollywood.  Sevigny continued to appear in a number of independent films, gaining a reputation as an indie film queen, but her roles weren’t the only thing that got garnered attention.  Sevigny’s original style and ability to not only break the rules of fashion, but re-write them made her a favorite among many designers.  Sevigny even became the face of the new fragrance for French fashion house Chloe in early 2007.

Now, Chloe’s style continues to astound, and she’s marketed her eye for fashion into more than one successful fashion lines.

The actress and fashion darling somehow manages to mix vintage, mod, and ’90s grunge styles together and make them look modern and unique. Whether at a premiere or a party, Sevigny looks natural and comfortable in whatever she wears. Not only is Sevigny a genius at pulling off grunge looks, she is also very well-known for making masculine and androgynous pieces seem feminine.

Sevigny in One of Her Own Designs

Sevigny also succeeds where many celebrities fail: she has a successful and fashion forward clothing line.  She’s collaborated with Tara Subkoff for her Imitation of Christ collection, which was released in 2003.

Sevigny also has her own line for Opening Ceremony, a New York boutique. It’s also available at Collete in Paris and Dover Street Market in London. The collection features women’s, men’s, and unisex pieces. She debuted the collection in 2008 and has since released a fall/winter 2009 collection and resort/spring 2011 collection. The thing about Sevigny’s clothing line is that not only is it popular among members of the fashion industry, other celebrities love it as well, making her a stand-out name in the fashion industry.

Sevigny knows no bounds and plans to continue her work in fashion. As far as her acting career, she can currently be seen on the HBO hit series “Big Love” and has another indie flick, The Wait, to be released this year.
