Women wearing men’s clothes is a trend that has been around for decades, as early as the 30′ and 40′s according to Forbes magazine, and like all trends has peaks and falls. The last few years, it’s been back up at its peak. Tons of designers began making more androgynous, male-oriented clothing for their women’s line in 2010-2011, and it seems it’s still the ensemble to beat this year.
Though only a month into 2012, several celebs have been seen rocking the men’s inspired look. Most recently, Evan Rachel Wood wore a tuxedo to the Golden Globes after party. She looked great, nailing all the key points to pulling this look off.
To wear a suit and keep it feminine and sexy, a great blouse is a must! Wood paired hers with a silky, bronze top. Also, a high heel keeps the feminity and adds glamour. She wore a black, peep toe shoe that accomplished just that.
She’s no newbie to this look however. Evan Rachel Wood donned a suit on numerous occasions in 2011.
Attending the same after party was Ms. Menswear herself, Janelle Monáe. This musical phenom has been rocking a classic tux with black and white saddle shoes since she began making major waves in the music scene in 2006. The Golden Globes were no exception! She performed at the after party wearing her signature suit, proving this trend is still going strong.
Designers that have typically specialized in male apparel have begun incorporating feminine concepts into their lines to create sexy menswear for women. Most famously would be Armani and Hugo Boss, both top men’s fashion lines.
You don’t need to shell out tons of money to pull off this look either. A simple blazer can be purchased from GAP, Macy’s, Abercrombie & Fitch, etc. Pair it with a fitted trouser for a feminine look, or a wide leg pant if you really want to be more androgynous. Soft make-up, like Evan’s Golden Globes look or the Hugo Boss models, keeps you pretty and girly even when in a suit. It’s a sophisticated and bold look, but with the right accessories anyone can pull it off!
