Monday, April 15th was Patriots’ Day in the great state of Massachusetts. Patriots’ Day occurs every third Monday in April and includes a variety of celebratory activities. The Red Sox always play a home game and thousands of people come from all over to participate in the Boston Marathon. As everyone knows, this day that was supposed to consist of appreciation and fun festivities ended in senseless violence.

The Boston bombings affected millions of us, if not physically, emotionally. Even Boston sports long-time rival, the New York Yankees, stepped up to let Boston know they stand by them in this tough time by playing “Sweet Caroline,” which is played in every Red Sox home game. And I doubt you’ve ever seen a game opening and National Anthem like this one for the Bruin’s at The Boston Garden on the 17th. It is impossible to not get goosebumps from those videos.

Over the past few days there have been 4 killed and over 180 injured who are being treated at various nearby hospitals. After what these victims had been through, what could put a smile on their faces? Some people got personal hospital visits by President Obama, Bradley Cooper and Julian Edelman (he plays for the Patriots), which I think is wonderful.

Julian posted this on Twitter, referring to Jeffrey Bauman as a “true inspiration” :

Bauman lost both of his legs below his knees from the bombs at the marathon. As soon as he woke up, even though he was in intensive care, Bauman alerted others and helped to identify one of the suspects. Bauman claimed to have watched the suspect drop the backpack, which held a bomb, and even made direct eye contact with him. How eerie.

Bradley Cooper has been in Boston filming American Hustle along with co-stars Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, and others. I am sure seeing Bradley Cooper and Julian Edelman really made a difference in Bauman’s day. I think that it was a wonderful thing for them as well as Obama to visit hospitals. Thumbs up.
