Cyrus v. Black

What do Twilight and YouTube’s latest singing discover Rebecca Black have in common? Well, besides being adored by millions of fans worldwide, they are both on The Last Song starlet Miley Cyrus’s “hate” list. While Cyrus has been quite vocal in the past about her distaste for the “cult-like” vampire-romance novels, which ultimately turned Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson into household names, the 18-year-old singer is now taking a swing at Black’s rise to insta-stardom. more…

Billy Ray and daughter Miley Cyrus

The words “squeaky-clean” and “innocent” are characteristics I would hardly use to describe former teen queen Miley Cyrus these days. After getting caught smoking a bong last winter, the now 18-year-old is embracing her bad girl self or “inner adult,” as she is now calling the shots in her (hopefully) lasting career. With her flick LOL set to hit theaters later this year and her latest project, So Undercover, wrapping up, Cyrus’s fans and critics worldwide are questioning what the starlet has up her sleeve next.  Especially since her famous daddy Billy Ray has admitted that he’s “concerned” for his “cash cow” of a daughter. more…

That’s bad news for a music industry that has increasingly depended on concert ticket sales to create revenue for promoters and performers alike.  An article in The Economist last October demonstrated that this dependence has led to more expensive tickets for concert-goers. more…

Miley Cyrus on the set of her new video

After all the pole dancing, old-man grinding, and the whole Annie Leibowitz episode, you’d think we would be a little more prepared for what Miley Cyrus was going to throw at us next. You really would think that. But, in “Who Owns My Heart” Cyrus shockingly rolls around in bed, clad in underwear, and provocatively bumps and grinds with a plethora of party people in a number of impromptu dance club scenes. more…

Can we handle another Justin Bieber? The producers of American Idol sure think so.

Is 'American Idol' trying to find the next Justin Bieber?

In a statement released June 21, the hit singing competition announced it has lowered the minimum age requirement for its contestants from 16 to 15 for the upcoming tenth season. The reason for the change is, according to executive producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz, “A lot of young, talented people are now seeking careers and representation before they turn 16. Lowering the age limit allows us to tap into this talent pool.”

Idol’s producers may be on to something. Young people seeking careers in show business is certainly nothing new, but it does seem like in the past few years there has been a huge resurgence of “tween” stars in entertainment. Starting with the premiere of High School Musical back in 2006, the Disney Channel and its more…
