For many people, summer isn’t just about heading to the beach or going on vacation. Summer is also the season when big blockbusters take over movie theaters, and this year was no exception.

The list of this summer’s top 10 highest-grossing movies worldwide, according to Forbes.com with data from Box Office Mojo, is dominated by sequels, kids’ movies and action flicks. Claiming the top honor is Disney Pixar’s Toy Story 3, earning $895 million at the box office this summer. I think many would agree this film deserves the title as summer 2010’s box office champion.

Eleven years passed before we could learn the fate of Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of our favorite toys after Andy left for college, but the wait was well worth it. It’s been a sad year for fans of The Office. With more drama than lighthearted comedy, this season has undoubtedly been the worst of the series. Even more tragic is the confirmation of Steve Carell’s departure from the show when the upcoming seventh season ends.

Carell told Entertainment Weekly he will be leaving the hit NBC comedy after season 7 at the premiere of his new animated movie Despicable Me this past weekend. “I think it’s a good time to move on,” Carell said. “I just want to spend more time with my family.”
