Green Day with the cast of 'American Idiot.'

Green Day front man Billie Joe Armstrong will join the cast of the band’s new Broadway musical American Idiot for the upcoming week, according to the show’s producers. Armstrong will make his Broadway debut in the role of drug dealer St. Jimmy. Tony Vincent, the actor who currently plays St. Jimmy, will be leaving the show due to a “personal family matter,” and he will return October 12. more…

The new musical about Spider-Man opens on Broadway this fall.

One of the most beloved comic book characters will be swinging into Broadway this fall. Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark begins previews November 14 and opens at the Foxwoods Theatre (previously known as the Hilton Theatre) December 21.

The Spider-Man musical is one of the most anticipated new shows of the season, not only because of its famous fictional protagonist, but also due to its talented creative team and extravagant budget. more…

The Tony Awards is usually Broadway’s biggest night. But it seems Hollywood invaded this year’s awards show.

The 64th annual Tony Awards aired Sunday, June 13, and like always, I was really looking forward to this year’s telecast. I’m a huge fan of Broadway musicals, so Tony night is always a very important night for me.

The show opened with host Sean Hayes playing the piano as cast members from this season’s shows performed short musical excerpts from their productions. It didn’t bother me that Hayes, an actor better-known for his work in television and movies than his current role as Chuck Baxter in the Broadway revival of Promises, Promises, was hosting the awards show.
