I have RSVPed late to The Hunger Games. My apologies. There is no particular reason why. Back in ’01, I got on the Harry Potter movie bandwagon right quick. My tender age and eagerness to commemorate with peers justified standing solemnly in an opening week line, bent on getting a seat, eyes squinting at show times dimly lit on a towering marque. more…

Mad Men is back! Contract negotiations and scheduling conflicts have kept the show off AMC for close to two years, yet fans will not be deterred. Season five has been generating just as much buzz.

Thus far the theme has been forward thinking amidst strong opposition – on a personal and global front. Tumblr, the microblogging site made massive by disaffected teens, is cracking the proverbial whip on its most unsettling sub-cultures. In an announcement made last week, the website revealed an addition to its Content Policy that will prohibit blogs that actively promote self-harm - a blanket term to include those that glorify eating disorders, cutting and suicidal ideation.

Like most social networking sites, Tumblr’s appeal rests in its platform: Users are encouraged to express themselves – often – using mostly photos (words are for Twitter) to convey some ideal semblance of who they are. Or, more often, who they want to be. Like-minded folks follow like-minded blogs, and online communities-within-a-community are born. more…

Not sure if any New York/New Jersey people heard, but the Giants won the Super Bowl. As fans took to the streets to bellow obnoxiously and sling back the last of their beers, New England Patriots Quarterback Tom Brady collapsed onto the Astroturf. The post-game photo taken by the press shows Brady with his head hung low and palms cupped over his crotch, preserving what was left of his proverbial cojones. more…
