With the release of this year’s Oscar nominations, there also comes the films that weren’t recognized.  Actor Russell Crowe tweeted, “Ryan Gosling didn’t get an academy nomination?  That’s some bulls–t right there.”  Crowe was referring to the wildly popular film Drive, which was out this fall.

Moments later, Crowe followed up the tweet with, “Albert Brooks you were excellent in Drive. Excellent.”

Brooks took to Twitter as well, voicing his feelings about the movie’s non-nominations tweeting,

The actor followed this up with,

Gosling also performed in the 2011 movies The Ides of March and Crazy, Stupid, Love.

Half Nelson (2006)

Although I have yet to see Drive, there is no doubt that Gosling is an incredible actor.  I wasn’t a fan after I saw The Notebook.  However, I later saw his performance in the 2006 movie, Half Nelson, where Gosling plays a drug addicted, inner city junior high school teacher.  He forms a friendship with one of his students, who finds out about his drug habits.

The story is complex and shows the struggles in each of their lives.  It’s a fascinating movie, if not just for Gosling’s acting.  He was nominated for best actor in 2007 for this role, but didn’t win.

Even without seeing Drive, I believe people when they say he got snubbed.  He’s a great actor and he proved that with Half Nelson.  I would definitely like to get my hands on the Fall blockbuster to see what all the fuss is about.
