Cumberbatch is one of the latest batch of rising British stars.

If you haven’t heard of Benedict Cumberbatch yet, I’m sorry to say that you’re missing out quite terribly. The thirty-five-year-old British actor has gained increasing notoriety for his leading role in BBC’s modern adaptation of the Sherlock Holmes franchise (named, aptly enough, Sherlock), in which he plays quite convincingly the mildly acerbic and incredibly brilliant counterpart to Martin Freeman’s (of The Office (UK) and the upcoming The Hobbit movie) amiably charming John Watson.

Cumberbatch has also proved that he has serious acting chops in the recent remake of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, holding his own among a cast that includes greats like Gary Oldman and Colin Firth.

This week, however, Cumberbatch has joined the ranks of the musically-inclined – just not of his own accord.

Way back in October of 2010, Cumberbatch hosted the series premiere of Have I Got News For You, a British panel talk show produced by Hat Trick Productions for BBC. The main highlight of the night was a clip that has recently gained as much fame as the man himself, during which Cumberbatch utters the phrase “a damn good shag” in the loveliest British baritone. The phrase became somewhat of a meme in its own right in recent months.

And now, the kicker. Do you remember that irritatingly catchy song by Fool’s Gold DJ duo Duck Sauce? It graced alternative dance clubs long before Glee made it a national sensation, and I had almost hoped that we were quite finished with messing around with it. Nope!

Duck Sauce made this lady more popular than ever in 2011.

One particularly popular website allows you to type out your own phrase and generate a customized version of the song, choosing from several voice options. That’s likely where someone got the idea to insert the dulcet tones of Benedict Cumberbatch saying what everyone wants most in the world (I’m talking, of course, about that “damn good shag”) into the infinitely less sexy “Barbra Streisand” track.

Trust me, this is something you’ll want to hear for yourself. And check out Mr. Cumberbatch while you’re at it.
