As the weather starts to get cooler and cooler, many girls need help finding things to wear during this “transition period” from fall to winter, where it’s kind of chilly but not cold enough to pull out the heavy winter coat. Finding clothing to wear may also become more difficult if you live in an area where the weather is constantly changing during the day. However, Ohio teen Sarah has mastered the technique of choosing clothes when the weather is fickle.
At lunch, I spotted her wearing a flower-printed shirt, from Forever 21, with bold blue shorts and several bangles on her arm. Underneath those shorts were dark colored tights that were paired with legwarmers and camel colored heels. Tights and leggings are key pieces to any girls’ wardrobe. They can be worn with anything, including dresses and shorts seen frequently in the summer/fall. Sarah looks great every day, even though she’s a busy high school student, so I asked her a few questions about her style.
What influences your style?
“My style is influenced a lot by other decades. I love the 60s and the hippie movement with all the colors and mixture of patterns. And I also love the 50s ‘classic styles.’”
Who is your fashion inspiration?
“I don’t really have one fashion inspiration. When I watch movies and shows, I’ll get ideas from some of the people I see.”
What are some of your favorite trends for the winter?
“My favorite trend for the winter is probably menswear, especially blazers. I also love legwarmers!”
Where do you shop the most?
“My favorite stores are Forever 21, H&M, Pac Sun and thrift stores.”
You can immediately see the influences in Sarah’s style when you look out her outfit. From her flowery shirt to her legwarmers, her outfit shows how past trends play a role in her clothing selection. Besides influences from the past, Sarah also stated that she gets inspired the clothing in TV shows and movies, which is a great starting point for any outfit. So the next time you’re on the couch, in front of the television, keep your eyes peeled. You’ll never know where your next outfit idea will come from!
