Nicole Richie

Who can forget the years Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton spent dominating not only our television screens, but also our magazines, our movies, and our Sidekicks? “The Simple Life” catapulted Nicole Richie into fame, and we’ve watched her transform from  the notorious party girl to a reformed yet stylish mother of two. Being a source of fashion inspiration since her iconic obsession with oversized sunglasses, Nicole’s reign as Los Angeles’ go-to trendsetter has yet to let up, and her accessories line, House of Harlow 1960, is making sure of that.

So, what’s the best way to pick up tips from the fashionista herself? By picking up pieces from her own line, of course. Formed in 2008, Nicole’s jewelry line has been featured at Kitson’s online boutique as well as earned her the title of “Entrepreneur of the Year” by Glamour Magazine. Made of fabric, gold plating, and feathers, the line has been worn by celebrities the likes of Madonna and Ashlee Simpson. If her high-end accessories line is far from your budget, don’t be afraid to DIY. House of Harlow 1960 is all about the retro trinkets look, so armed with a hot-glue gun, wire, and some feathers from your local craft shop, you won’t be missing out.

As for clothing, Nicole made oversized sunglasses famous back in 2007, being snapped left and right with a pair of bug-eyed lenses framing her face. While this might have been almost five years ago, the sunglasses have never gone out of style and match perfectly with the ’60s vibe Nicole is still known for today. Pair your sunglasses with long pants (bell-bottomed pants are actually very chic these days) and a flowy peasant top to look as chic as they did back in the ’60s. A chunky wooden heel wouldn’t hurt either! (Jeffrey Campbell’s Foxy is a personal favorite.)

Nicole Richie’s sense of style has never failed us, so news that she will be expanding House of Harlow 1960 to include items such as handbags, sunglasses, and shoes is thrilling to hear. Look out for more ways to expand your closet and your style this fall.
