Reviews for Houston's "Nothing But Love" tour have not been very adoring

A decade ago, no one would have dreamt of walking out of a Whitney Houston concert. She rose to popularity with her catchy singles and strong ballads and was adored for her powerhouse voice. Now, however, Houston is receiving minimal affection on her “Nothing But Love” tour due to night after night of poor performances.

Houston’s comeback tour, which has made stops in Australia, Europe and Asia, seems to be pushing her career backward instead of forward.  In her first tour in ten years, concert goers have been flocking out of her concerts because of her sloppy stage presence and lackluster vocals. Houston received negative feedback from her uninspired opening show in Brisbane, Australia back in February, and the problems seemed to continue. Attendees at both her Australian and European shows, who expected Houston to belt out her classic songs, instead complained of Houston’s talking too much, and, when she did sing, her vocals often sounded tired as she failed to hit many of her signature notes. Houston has claimed her exhausted voice is due to respiratory problems, allergies and even air conditioning.

Concert goers haven’t only heard, but they’ve seen a different Houston as well. They could not help but notice her weight gain and overall unhealthy appearance. The singer has been reported as looking bloated, sweaty and exhausted. Houston supposedly walked out of one of her shows for 20 minutes for a break while her backup singers and brother Gary were left to entertain the crowd by singing her songs themselves. Similar exhaustion issues for Houston arose in Birmingham and London. Audiences seem increasingly frustrated with the singer’s behavior. At a recent show in Copenhagen, for instance, more than half of Houston’s audience walked out before its conclusion.

Houston has had her share of trouble in the past, such as battling a drug addiction as well as an abusive relationship with Bobby Brown. Although Houston’s new tour was supposed to be a comeback from her tainted past, rumors have swirled about her turning to drugs again. There were high hopes for Houston after a positive interview with Oprah Winfrey, but many are now questioning the songstress’s ability to regain the favor of former admirers.

Despite recent criticism, some of Houston’s loyal fans are defending her as they choose to remember her as a great artist with killer vocals and chart-topping singles. Houston will continue her “Nothing But Love” tour until her final show in Manchester, England on June 17. Fans are hoping for her polished pipes to return, but until then we’ll be saving all our love for the strong-voiced Whitney we’ve all always known.
