Rolling out movies like he’s manufacturing them on an assembly line, Tyler Perry’s a long way from the roach infested apartment he used to live in.
Perry’s newest installment, Why Did I Get Married Too? is the sequel to the cult-classic, Why Did I Get Married? Even though Perry still highlights the trials of each couple’s marriage, Patricia (Janet Jackson) and Gavin’s (Malik Yoba) relationship received the most face-time. Â
Gathering in the Bahamas for their annual one-week marriage retreat, each couple quickly realizes that they are not immune to the difficulties of commitment and fidelity. As they learn to deal with the problems in their individual marriages, Jackson and Yoba are content on keeping the facade of their seemingly “perfect relationship†alive.  Sheila (Jill Scott) and Sheriff Troy (Lamman Rucker) are still settling into married life, and with a new baby, and very recent relocation, the unexpected arrival of Scott’s ex-husband Mike (Richard T. Jones), threatens their union.
Like always, Angela (Tasha Smith) is set on believing that her husband Marcus (Michael Jai White) is cheating on her. Living by the mantra, “once a cheat always a cheat,†Smith must learn to forgive and trust that her husband loves her. Additionally, by exaggerating on the “crazy black woman†stereotype, Perry keeps his audience laughing and entertained.
Perhaps, the most impressive acting came from Ms. Janet Jackson. Just reeling from the death of her brother Michael, Janet was able to channel her energy into providing a convincing, yet scary look into her relationship.Â
Hell bent on not being referred to as predictable, Perry spent the better portion of the movie convincing the audience that they wouldn’t be able to figure out the ending. True to form, the result was a definite, but well deserved surprise.
