It’s the everlasting scent of Chanel No. 5 that has made it the number 1 fragrance for years. Referred to as the now and forever fragrance, it was the Parisian couturier designer, Gabrielle “Co Co” Chanel who introduced us to the company’s first fragrance in 1921. “I want to give the world something artificial…. like a dress. Something that has been made…. I want a perfume that is a composition”; and with the help of the French perfumer Earnest Beaux, she did.

“What do I wear in bed? Chanel No. 5, of course,” said Marilyn Monroe. As women become obsessed with smelling beautiful, they tend to overuse fragrances. Though we can smell instantly, shopping for perfume takes time and patience. More importantly, don’t forget to bring your senses along with you. The idea is to purchase a fragrance that compliments you.  Keep in mind that a woman’s scent is her signature and her trademark, that’s why it should be applied accordingly. After testing a spray or two, give the chemicals some time to sink in and fully develop. If that means walking around the store for a while, take the chance! When those few minutes have come to an end, then you can be the judge.

Co Co Chanel believed woman should wear perfume wherever they hoped to be kissed. Weather it’s a spray to the wrist, neck or cleavage, a small amount is recommended. Who says you can’t layer? Believe it or not, Chanel No. 5 sparked a bit of interest in the art world. Pop art painter, Andy Warhol did a series of his famous silk screens using the Chanel bottle as his art work.
