Remember-MeRobert Pattinson wants to be James Dean. He’s been deemed the world’s favorite vampire (as Edward in the Twilight films), but more recently, his attempts at a less sparkly career fall flat when he’s left to his own devices. But what better way to revamp (no pun intended) his career than to play up that signature brooding expression in a modern day tragedy? That’s where Remember Me comes in. It’s endearing, exasperating, and delicate – not unlike young love.

Pattinson plays 21-year-old Tyler, a scruffy amalgam of troubled young men through the ages. Like Holden before him, he’s got a little sister whom he adores, and he tends to focus his energy on withdrawing from society. Like the guy in Ordinary People, he’s also living in the shadow of his dead older brother. Coincidentally, he’s also the son of a bureaucratic, dominant father, much like Cal in East of Eden. Tyler is more like a set of qualities than a character (i.e. he works at a Strand bookstore in New York City (surprise), arranging shelves into categories like authors who died young or authors who slept together). He smokes obsessively, drinks beer for breakfast, and more…

There are up to 150,000 strands that make up a full head of hair. Thankfully, it doesn’t take that amount of people to maintain it. Good hair needs texture, requires length, and deserves some type of body. It’s believed that we’ll care for our hair the way we care for our pets. We groom them, feed them nutrition, and can’t help but pet them every so often. Just as a dog needs an owner, good hair needs a companion too; a hairstylist.

Today, salons have become a woman’s home away from home. It’s the one environment where women share the same needs, wants and interest; healthy hair. In fact, most women would live in the salon if they had the chance too. In today’s society all a woman needs is a comb, a mirror, hairspray, and a rack of gossip magazines to keep her occupied. (And just maybe, a handsome mail man to more…

The trends for Spring/Summer 2010 are classy and full of fun, but they also have had a fun laid-back vibe, and that’s how the trend of the braid came back. Some designers have had models with braids. Some were across the head as headbands, and some just loose, they still made a fashionable statement, and have become the latest obsession of fashionistas and a great trend for the upcoming spring/summer.

Milkmaid braids were popular among Oscar de la Renta. One bold braid was made on the crown of the head, forming a circle. De la Renta weaved bright pieces of ribbon into the hair for a unique look. The trend can also be done as a front braid, where the braid goes from front to back. Diane von Furstenberg had models with small braids down the side of their heads, and slicked back. Some designers sported a new way of braiding by doing fishbone braid. The braid is more narrower and has more layers because the process involves small pieces overlapping each other. But when achieved, the braid is more…

Spring is usually known as the time for soft pastels, but as said in Vogue, this seasons bold tribal trend “dances to the beat of a tribal drum with modern, African-inspired pieces.”  So, how would one describe the latest new trend? It’s full of prints such as ikat, batik and tie-dye. Rich silks and bold colors were present, as well as tie-dye.

The question is -where did this trend originate from? For some designers, they were inspired by history. Designers Flora Gill and Alexa Adams, who design for Ohne Titel, went back into 1570-1070b.c., where they got inspiration from Egyptian wall paintings. Dries Van Noten returned to his Asian roots, where he was influenced by wood-block prints and Balinese silks. His collection has contrasting layers and primal prints. Louis Vuitton had a post-punk world traveler vibe, the exotic prints looked as if they more…

It’s the everlasting scent of Chanel No. 5 that has made it the number 1 fragrance for years. Referred to as the now and forever fragrance, it was the Parisian couturier designer, Gabrielle “Co Co” Chanel who introduced us to the company’s first fragrance in 1921. “I want to give the world something artificial…. like a dress. Something that has been made…. I want a perfume that is a composition”; and with the help of the French perfumer Earnest Beaux, she did.

“What do I wear in bed? Chanel No. 5, of course,” said Marilyn Monroe. As women become obsessed with smelling beautiful, they tend to overuse fragrances. Though we can smell instantly, shopping for perfume takes time and patience. More importantly, don’t forget to bring your more…

lingerie-blogLingerie is the one clothing accessory that every woman secretly loves. Why, you ask? It’s the one way a woman can feel sexy regardless of her shape or size. Lingerie comes in sweet, pastel colors and lacy details, which makes it hard to resist. Lately, the revealing trend had been spotted at stores and seen on the runways.

Perhaps it was the fact that designers couldn’t resist using the wonderful details found on lace. Mesh, florals, pastels, lace and sheer fabrics are all associated with lingerie. They are all just right for spring. Lace tops have been big hit. Whether classy black or color, they make a statement. They are usually not revealing, because the lace does the job.

Marc Jacobs had silky lingerie in his collections. Models wore lingerie over button down shirts. Christian Dior remained classy. Bedtime lingerie was used as a dress and covered up with a chic-sequined top. Other lingerie pieces seen on the runway were satin shorts with lace. Of course the creators of sexy, Dolce & Gabbana had the whole lingerie package – lace, corsets and satin.

With this fabulous trend, one wonders how they can make it work with their regular wardrobe. “The best way to wear lingerie is to take it out of context,” explains Fabiola Beracasa. Meaning try to use lingerie pieces in your every day wardrobe. For example, pair a sexy black corset over a white tee.

Also work with texture, the clothing you buy now doesn’t necessarily have to be lingerie. Try to buy satin pieces in pastel colors. Those can be sexy layered or with jeans. Sheer and florals are a big part of lingerie. Florals are in this season, so why not go with a sheer floral top? Another way to expose sexy lingerie is by wearing it. Wear a sexy lacy bra and reveal the straps. But remember, as Domenico Dolce said: “Don’t be too audacious. Save something for the imagination.”

Jenny is 16 and a virgin. David is twice her age and stylish. And so begins An Education, a film brilliantly adapted for the screen by author Nick Hornby, who finds a timeless account of the clash between strict, practical education and chaotic, intrinsic life in 1960s London.

Jenny (Carey Mulligan) is a devoted student with a proclivity for modern novels and French pop records, doing her best to get to Oxford and please her domineering father (Alfred Molina) in the process. She even plays the cello, mainly because it looks good as a hobby for her application.

It’s when she’s standing on the curb, sopping wet from the rain with her cello, that Jenny meets David (Peter Sarsgaard). He offers to rescue her cello from the downpour, while she walks alongside the car. The scene is delightfully sweet and funny, and serves as a great opening. Eventually, Jenny gets into his car, and quickly starts involving herself in a world that she’s only beginning to discover on her own. The two begin to spend more and more time together, with David taking Jenny to more…

Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol

“An artist is someone who produces things that people don’t need to have but that he – for some reason – thinks it would be a good idea to give them.”

-          Andy Warhol

From the design of the Campbell’s Soup can to the colorful portrait of Marilyn Monroe we love so much; it was Andy Warhol who introduced us to pop art.

“During the 1960s, I think, people forgot what emotions were supposed to be. And I don’t think they’ve ever remembered,” said Warhol. From a dollar bill to a soda bottle, it was those everyday images, people, and objects that Warhol had an eye for. The Ferus Gallery of Los Angeles was where he first displayed his work as a more…
