Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga has recently signed a multiyear deal with Polaroid. The 23-year-old singer won’t just be the face of the instant-photography brand, but she’ll also be helping the company develop new cameras and accessories. She will be named a creative director at Polaroid. Currently, Polaroid has declined to disclose financial terms of its agreement with the Lady Gaga.
Executives at Polaroid said consumers could expect to see Lady Gaga in their marketing efforts soon after the agreement comes to fruition. Polaroid is even planning for a Christmas 2010 launch of a line of Lady Gaga-branded products.
Lady Gaga was quoted as having said, “Lifestyle, music, art, fashion: I am so excited to extend myself behind the scenes as a designer and to – as my father puts it – finally have a real job.”
The pop-sensitive deal is part of a larger plan for Polaroid to emerge as a global brand for digital photography and printing, as well as accessories like polarized sunglasses. Having already brought about a line of “Zink” digital cameras that can print photos as soon as they’re taken, this year Polaroid will re-introduce analog instant cameras and film similar to the infamous “One Step” model that first appeared in the ’70s and ’80s.
Vice President Jon Pollock said that Lady Gaga “will be involved in everything from concept to product design to marketing… She’ll be coming in a couple times a month at a minimum.” Pollock said, “She likes the fact that it’s very real and authentic and creative and inspirational – she’s very Andy Warhol-ish in the way she approaches the market.”
Polaroid signed Lady Gaga after several months of searching celebrity circles. Evidently, she is quite a bit like the iconic brand. Lady Gaga for Polaroid might just be a refreshing new take on an old sensation.
