Alicia Keys together with Swizz Beatz

It’s official! Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz are engaged. Ok! Magazine’s reporting that Alicia “had more to smile about” on January 25 than simply celebrating her 29th birthday. Aside from a romantic getaway with her boo Swizz Beatz, Alicia also got a wedding proposal.

According to OK!, “Beatz proposed with a 7-carat sparkler right before her big day. Her rep denies she’s engaged, but another friend reveals that they are currently celebrating her engagement. She feels blessed.”

Like Wendy Williams says, “you have to be careful how you get a man, because that’ll be the same way you’ll lose him.” Definitely words to live by. Maybe Alicia should adhere to what Wendy’s saying. In related news, Swizz is still working on his divorce from ex-wife Mashonda.

Madonna

Madonna

From leg warmers to shoulder pads, Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses and lingerie as outerwear, there’s something about trends in the 80’s that still spark a bit of fascination. Let’s go way back to when everyone played Pac man, graffiti was art, kids hopped the subway and everyone’s dad owned a Cadillac with a paint job.  Let’s not forget about those acid washed jeans and member’s only jackets that came in a variety of colors! Everybody who was somebody had one.

There were a handful of artist that made their debut in the 80’s and eventually faded with the rest of the trends. Her dirty blonde wavy hair was her high fashion. That eye popping red lipstick made a statement of its on. Pointy bustiers, bulky accessories, and those memorable layers is what made her a fashion icon. In Italian her name means “My lady” but around the world she is known as Madonna.

If that doesn’t ring any bells by now then I’m sure her “Like a virgin” single will. During her appearance at the 1984 VMA’s she stepped out looking like a bride in a white lace gown that could have been mistake for an undergarment. Those matching gloves and plated belt that read “Boy Toy” made eyes pop that night. And of course there were many more accessories that went along with it.

“I am my own experiment. I am my own work of art,” she once said. From youth to adults Madonna became an inspiration. In fact, she gave girls a reason to sing in the mirror, and sport their bras with a jacket in public! Today, Madonna is in her 50’s and looks like she hasn’t aged a bit. From her curves to the way she wears couture, she continues to make an enormous amount of heads turn.

Crazy HeartCrazy Heart, written and directed by Scott Cooper, shines on the big screen. The film offers idyllic views of otherwise hidden bits of the American West. The main feature is Bad Blake, a 57-year-old country singer who’s lost his way, played by Jeff Bridges. While Bridges’s former characters have had big personalities (think The Big Lebowski), something new shines forth in his latest role.

Truthfully, Bad has a certain charisma about him. It’s evident both on-stage and off. His character has an intelligence that is sort of charming. He isn’t emotionally devoid of life, but rather bemused by the outside world. He drives from one lowly gig to another in an old truck, playing bowling alleys and dive bars with local pickup bands and sleeping in motels.

The only person he bothers to complain to is his manager. Bad is constantly refusing to write songs, or to move forward, insisting that the old stuff is the only stuff. His way is the only way. It’s through that stubborn admission that the audience can see that more…

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga has recently signed a multiyear deal with Polaroid. The 23-year-old singer won’t just be the face of the instant-photography brand, but she’ll also be helping the company develop new cameras and accessories. She will be named a creative director at Polaroid. Currently, Polaroid has declined to disclose financial terms of its agreement with the Lady Gaga.

Executives at Polaroid said consumers could expect to see Lady Gaga in their marketing efforts soon after the agreement comes to fruition. Polaroid is even planning for a Christmas 2010 launch of a line of Lady Gaga-branded products.

Lady Gaga was quoted as having said more…

Patricia Field

From Carrie Bradshaw’s upscale fashion, to Samantha’s unique accessories, Sex and the City has introduced us to four women we love, admire, and can’t stop relating ourselves to. If it’s one thing these gals have taught us, it’s to look your best because love isn’t always blind. From couture dresses to headpieces and down to those Manolo Blahniks, have you ever sat and wondered who put together those ensembles?

American costume designer, stylist and boutique owner, Patricia Field is the woman behind the thread and needle. “I don’t use the recession as a reference for my creativity,” said Field. What makes her so unique is her ability to commence Gucci with Vivian Westwood and a pair of Jimmy Choos without SCREAMING label! “She is also responsible for changing the way women dress, forever,” said the Daily Mail.

Who says you can’t be a more…

In the mist of a massive decline in record sales, artists are hitting the road and using concerts to make a profit and connect with their fans. While many entertainers think a few graphic backdrops and a microphone will suffice, one woman thinks, goes and lives outside of the box. She has been called “eye-catching,” “genius,” “ballsy” and “the best thing since Madonna.” She is Lady Gaga, and her concert is the epitome of everything that defines her; eye-catching, genius, ballsy, and the best thing since Madonna.

To open her much anticipated, two-hour long show, Lady Gaga blatantly explained the philosophy behind her concerts, “My shows are for my fans to feel free, so we keep the freaks out, and close the f*cking doors!” And once those doors were closed, the Fox Theater transformed from scenery of renaissance with its golden and marble architecture and a faux starlit-sky into a massive circus of chaos. And the Lady whom was the ringleader, does everything but disappoint.

Almost each song had its own motif with choreography, set, and outfit.  These elements helped construct each song into a performance piece. Her opening song, “Dance In The Dark,” was more…

From Queen Elizabeth to Elizabeth Taylor, there is something that makes a woman so uniquely feminine when she wraps a set of pearls around her neck. But did you ever stop and wonder where those set of rare gems come from? Living organisms!

Believe it or not, before these pearls go on display at Tiffany’s and Chanel boutiques, they are found in pearl oysters.

Let’s just say the bigger the pearl, the better. In ancient times, pearls were worn to represent wealth and power. Today, pearls still spark a fascination to the human eye but have become a woman’s best accessory. A simple blouse can go from dull to more…

The name Alexa Chung, has been heard here and there and very much associated with fashion and entertainment. Alexa Chung started as a British model, turned TV star.  Her MTV talk show, It’s on With Alexa Chung, replaced TRL; the show features celebrities revealing their secrets, and Alexa adding her own British humor to them. Besides her show, Alexa has been spotted at numerous fashion events, always making a statement.

Born in Privett, Hampshire, her mother is English and father Chinese. Chung was first spotted in the entertainment world when she landed a role on TV reality series “Shoot Me!” in 2003. Alexa had also appeared on English “Popworld” in 2006.  Being on the show offered Alexa an inside view on more…

HolmesGuy Ritchie’s directorial adaptation of the classic tale of mirth and myth has taken beloved acting icons Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law and transformed them into the ultimate action-adventure duo this holiday season. The pair has a charming on-screen bromance, with Law playing the Robin to Downey’s Batman. Their easy banter and thoughtful companionship seem to come naturally. They are – as my sister said in the very beginning – “Delicious.” There is no better word for their combined product of good looks, grandeur, and ability. Men and women alike sat upright in their seats as the two men took the screen.

Unfortunately, the only proper accent in all of Ritchie’s England comes from Law. Rachel McAdams, though visually captivating as the film’s sinister beauty, falls flat in terms of more…
