Bill and Ted's Most Excellent Adventure

Since Keanu Reeves announced the near completion of the Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure 3 script in April of 2011, fans have been waiting fruitlessly for more information regarding the return of the dudes from Wyld Stallyns! At the time, he confirmed a few meaty facts about the planned film. Alex Winter and himself would, of course, be returning to their roles as ‘Bill S. Preston Esquire’ and ‘Ted Theodore Logan,’ as failed, middle-aged musicians still looking for the song to change the world.

The script has allegedly been penned (and hopefully finished by now) by original Bill and Tedscript writers, Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, who Keanu said were “six weeks away from a draft!” back in April. Sadly, the role played by the now deceased comic George Carlin, RUFUS!, may vanish from the film altogether, as neither the actors nor writers felt they could find a suitable replacement.

Bill and Ted and their Princess Girlfriends

Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure revolves around two friends who must travel through time in order to pass their History final, or risk being separated forever. The separation might have done a little good for both characters, if it weren’t for their need to create a song together to save the world. Rufus, a traveler from the future, brings them a time machine and implores them not to fail their final, or, he warns, they risk throwing the future world into utter and complete chaos.

In the third film, Reeve’s let slip that the script will revolve around middle-aged Bill and Ted who were never quite able to write that perfect song. As such, he notes, “So they’ve now become kind of possessed by trying to do that. Then there’s an element of time and they have to go back.”

The Dudes of History!

It has now been nearly a year since Keanu’s announcement of the script being near completion without any more news coming out. This leads one to wonder whether B and T fans’ dreams are actually going to come true. There could be nothing more fulfilling than a now 50-year-old Keanu Reeve’s recreating a role he played as an actor in the decade of cocaine and hair metal.

Movies take time, however, and we must wait and see what eventually happens. Hopefully Keanu and Alex are able to find the production and funding they need to put on a film that will be a most excellent end to the Bill and Ted trilogy.

If there is one thing we can all learn from Ted Theodore Logan and Bill S. Preston Esquire, it is to most certainly to Be Excellent to One Another.
