Beyoncé did the unthinkable and lip synced during the most important event in the United States. No, not the Superbowl, but the inauguration of the President of the United States. This is a big deal even if you do not approve of the current president. Everyone was watching and then watched it again on Youtube. It was a beautiful performance and she looked nervous before beginning.
According to Kristin DuBois, a rep for the United States Marine Band
All music is pre-recorded for the ceremony because there are so many eventualities and conditions that day . . . We performed, live, the band. But we received last-minute word that Beyonce was going to use the pre-recorded vocal track. Those were the instructions we were given. We don’t know what the reason why.
I have an issue with Beyoncé lip syncing. Not because she is a singer and you should be able to perform live because that is your job, your career, your life. I have an issue with this simply because it’s Beyoncé. She portrays herself as this woman, who cannot do anything wrong; as if she is flawless beauty who also happens to be a great singer.
Also another issue I have is she released behind the scene photos of her practicing and warming up, as if she was about to do something. The only thing she did was show that she has had practice at lip syncing.
I strongly believe that if you are going to create this image and have people pay for this image then you need to back it up. Obviously, she sang the recorded tape and she sang it well. But there is a type of expectation I have when hearing her name and I was not expecting this.
Do you think everyone should look the other way because its Beyonce or should she be criticized like everyone else who is caught lip syncing?Beyonce, inauguration 2013, lip syncing, POTUS, YouTube
