Solange Knowles

Well, good news first. Aunt-to-be, Solange Knowles, couldn’t be more proud of her sister’s VMA performance on Sunday.  She tweeted on Aug 28th, “One. And Only. I could not possibly be more proud. Tears in my eyes.”

But the sun isn’t shining in all of Knowlesville.  The same weekend, pre-VMA, Solange was stopped by Miami’s cops and escorted out of a club because of the 5-ft blow-up banana she was holding.

Knowles was denied entry into the club and claims it was due to racial implications. She even says that the police officer pulled a weapon on her, to pop the balloon. My question is: doesn’t this cop have anything better to do?

She tweeted:

Solange made it clear that she was not going to let this incident go, and that she planned on reporting the incident to the Miami Police Department.

She also tweeted about how she would fight the “system”, in the name of her son, who may have to deal with crooked cops and the likes of racial prejudice one day..

But at the same time, there are two sides to every story. According to the Miami Herald, Solange was “hostile” when she was first denied entry and alleged racial discrimination on no grounds. Was she drunk? Or just having a bad day? Or is the Miami Herald just defending their own?

And the fact that the alleged weapon was a knife and not a gun makes the attack seem a little more personal. If the officer felt like she was a real threat, wouldn’t he have just pulled out his gun?

It’s not even certain why she had a five foot banana with her in the first place. I don’t know about her, but if I was running a little low on Potassium, that’s something I would keep to myself.

But According to Twitter and other various sources, Solange currently has all the information from the incident and plans on reporting the officer and the altercation for an investigation. But as funny as this incident seems, @solangeknowles would have you know that having “a switchblade pulled out on you” is “no laughing matter”.
