Photos from Janelle Monae's first photo shoot as the new face of CoverGirl

When it comes to singer Janelle Monae, her beauty is unique and flawless. So when news broke that Janelle would be the newest face of CoverGirl, it was no surprise that she had been picked! CoverGirl certainly added a great role model to its repertoire of spokeswomen by snagging its new leading lady Janelle Monae.

CoverGirl took to Twitter on Tuesday to announce the big news:

“Welcome @JanelleMonae to the @COVERGIRL Fam! Excited to go on this beauty journey with you!”

Janelle and her fans were excited about the news as well. Janelle also wrote a little something about the big news:

“I’m strong. I’m beautiful. I AM A COVERGIRL!!!!”

CoverGirl went straight to work and released some photos of Janelle’s first shoot. The photos will be feaured in the upcoming September issue of Vogue. Check out some excerpts from Janelle’s interview with Vogue below!

Janelle Monae

On her personal makeup looks:
I take a minimalist approach to my wardrobe and I do the same with my makeup. I don’t look at it as a mask. I don’t overdo it. A bold shade of red or pink—something that pops—brings the whole look together. I keep my eyes pretty simple but I like to make my lashes a little darker and thicker.

On becoming a CoverGirl:
I believe it’s time that women truly owned their superpowers and used their beauty and strength to change the world around them. One of my core values is to help redefine what it means to be a strong and beautiful woman in the music and fashion worlds and to empower the wonderful things that make us unique. Becoming a COVERGIRL is truly an honor and a gift: it opens up a new platform for me to inspire women to feel stronger, braver and more beautiful inside and out.

Congrats Janelle!!
